This week in English class we started to read a novel called night by Elie Wiesel. This book is about Elie Wiesel’s life. Elie Wiesel survived the holocaust and that is why he wrote this book. He believed that it was his duty as a surviver to never let anyone forget about the terrible things that the germans did to him, his family, and all of the jewish people. Hitler was the person who was in control of killing all and of managing the german soldiers. Before reading the book we did a bunch of assignments or activities as a class. First we filled out a paper on what we thought about the book, what we knew about the book then we watched an interview that Opera had with Elie Wiesel about his book night. Opera and Elie Wiesel talked about all of the terrible things that happened during the Holocaust. On the same paper that we wrote what we thought about the book, what we knew about the book we now wrote what we learned about the book. Then in class we watched a video on the holocaust and what the germans did. Then we wrote in our composition book what stuck out to us the most. I wrote what stuck out to me the most was the fact that they would hurt the children then kill them and that all of the jewish people had to sleep in these huge bunk beds where they were all stuffed into these little beds that looked like they were storage shelfs for books. After the reflection that we had in each of our composition books we had a big discussion as a class. Many people said that they were shocked mostly at the fact that the children were harmed before they were killed. Other people said that they were shocked at the fact that there were a lot of people who were killed during this time. I think that this is going to be a very violent and sad book but I think that it is going to be a good one. I can’t wait to start reading this book.
